BEGINNERS YOGA

The prospect of joining a yoga class for the first time can be quite daunting. Here we will try to answer some common questions and put right some common misconceptions.

There is no need to book a place in advance. We have quite a large hall and we'll always find a space for you.

There are no particular rules or dress code at The Yoga Hall. Wear any loose comfortable clothing, for example tracksuit trousers and a t-shirt. Some wear leggings or shorts. Some wear vests or sweatshirts. We usually practice in bare feet but it is advisable to bring some warm socks or jumper in the winter to keep you comfortable during the most relaxing parts of the class.

There are also no rules about how often you should come. You will benefit most from a regular practice. Once a week to begin with is fine. When you are inspired by your journey into yoga, you may want to do more. We have vouchers for 4 classes within one month that give you a small discount to help your commitment.

We have mats at The Yoga Hall so there is no need to bring your own, although you are welcome to do so if you prefer. We also have cushions for support if you need them. There is no other equipment necessary to practice yoga.

You don't have to be flexible to practice yoga. Flexibility, strength and balance are by-products of a process that gets your mind and body working together. Once you are in touch with how you are already, you can begin to release the resistance to becoming your best potential.

Yoga is not 'lying about, chanting'. While one of the most important aspects of yoga is to learn to relax, it can also be quite vigorous. At The Yoga Hall we practice intuitively - it's a new adventure every time.

Most other people in the class are beginners too, so you will be in good company.
